In-house research and development
We pride ourselves on the accuracy and level of detail we put into our models. This can only happen through thorough, time-consuming research. Starting with original manufacturer’s drawings, we then cross-refer this data with photographic evidence, making sure we capture not only the original vehicle that rolled out of the factory, but also often many changes that happened over its lifetime.
To help make sure we capture as much accuracy and detail as possible, before we start on a project we create a Working Group of enthusiasts, historians, preservation groups, and even owners (where possible) of that particular prototype. Within the boundaries of modern production, we make sure we include everything that captures the character and individuality of the particular subject we are producing.
Component selection and production
To ensure our model meets our own high standards, we select and test every component ourselves, whether it is a custom-built motor, the built-in speakers, our own design of interface circuit board, the UK-produced solid steel wheels, and even down the the internal cabling. We are reasonably confident to say that no other manufacturer spends as much time on component section as we do.
It’s an unfortunate fact that European production prices are still much higher than those in Asia, which is why our UK factory has operations in both continents. We get competitive tooling and prototyping along with British assembly, finishing and quality control. Quite literally the best of both worlds.
Giving back to our past for our future
Great Britain has a unique place in the history of railways, and with millions of visitors to our museums and preserved railways from all over the world, we are proud to donate valuable funds to ensure our historic railway heritage is preserved for future generations.
Every model we make supports a charitable organisation or group of enthusiasts involved in railway preservation, and this one of the pillars of Little Loco Company’s existence. Over 2017/18 we have already pledged over £30,000 and this will grow further before the end of this period. When you purchase one of our models, not only do you get a quality model, but you are also helping to ensure that our unique railway heritage is preserved and enhanced.
